Soooo I went to see Catherine Hardwicke's Red Riding Hood preview...

Yay, two-sided poster - awesome!

Super thanks to Michelle who wrote in with spare tickets to an early preview of Catherine Hardwicke's new movie Red Riding Hood here in Vancouver.

I took @CupcakeGirl76 as my plus one and hoped Billy Burke might swing by... no such luck!

So, the movie... I admit I was very excited by the trailer - it reminded me of how I felt seeing the original Twilight trailer - excited and fascinated with a touch of schmexy and mystery.

The film its-self looks beautiful: it has incredible mountainous panoramas; wooded fairy-tale villages; and the lighting goes from firey glows to icey stark...

Amanda "there's a 30% chance it's already raining" Seyfried is gorgeous and does a solid job with the script opposite Julie Christie (respect), Gary Oldman (I salute you, sir) Billy Burke (better with 'stache) and Max Irons (yeah, I would).

Now, Shiloh "almost Edward Cullen" Fernandez brings a good chemistry to the table and works hard at the role, even pulling off convincing schmexy time moments but... geez that boy's just

not pretty enough - just me?! He does that whole "I'm dangerous, you want me" thing well but I kept mentally thanking Kristen for not going there...

Plot wise, I don't want to give anything away but I will say the story honestly keeps you guessing - it's intriguing but... lacking, almost in that "New Moon Alice flash forward" kind of way - it could have been awesome - but only 20% as ridoncs.

Conclusion, I think it's definitely worth a watch - if only for the score which is quite a few kinds of tribal drum, deep voice, schmexy awesome - but Twilight it is not... sorry, Catherine x

Nikki attended the LA premiere of super-bestie, Catherine Hardwicke's new film, which I can NOT wait to see, Red Riding Hood.

The movie stars the almost Edward Cullen, Shiloh Fernandez (soooo glad for that non-casting) and could have been Rosalie Hale, Amanda Seyfried (there's a 30% chance it's already raining).

The trailer for Twilight director, Catherine Hardwicke's new movie Red Riding Hood came out today *bounce* as well as this interview where she talks about the transition from Twilight *cough*eventhoughShilohwasupfortherollofEdward*cough*:

RK: After making “Twilight,” where fans felt such ownership over the story, is this a film in which you can create your own visual world?

CH: I think so. There’s so many versions of Red Riding Hood. It goes back 700 years. It’s much more open to interpretation. At the end of the fairy tale she’s saved by a woodcutter. That’s one of the reasons why we have the houses all out of heavy construction. We stayed true to the oldest telling of the stories in a lot of ways. There’s a great book called [Bruno Bettelheim's] “The Uses of Enchantment,” delving into the meaning and philosophy of fairy tales and why these stories have endured and gotten under our skin. That was very inspiring to me.

RK: Who are the men competing for Red Riding Hood’s affections?

CH: One of them is Peter, played by Shiloh Fernandez. She feels he is her soul mate, but he’s had more of a troubled past. They love each other but that’s not the way her mother wants Amanda’s life to go. She wants her daughter to have a better life and arranges a
marriage with Henry, who’s played by Max Irons, the son of Jeremy Irons. He’s a very striking-looking kid, as is Shiloh, who’s very soulful. Shiloh was my runner-up for Edward in “Twilight” but he and Kristen [Stewart] didn’t have the instant chemistry lock that is now well-known.

Twi-Gals at Elle's Women in Hollywood Event

The Elle 17th annual Women in Hollywood event took place at the Four Seasons in LA on Monday and not only did the lovely Anna Kendrick look stunning on the red carpet - seriously, that girl has style - but, Twilight screen-play writer, Melissa Rosenburg gets *two thumbs up* for the LBD!

Director, Catherine Hardwicke (who I was lucky enough to meet in Portland not long ago) also rocked the night in her classic "non-classic" style and is rumoured to be adapting a version of Romeo and Juliet for TV! Who knew?

FOOORKS & TwiTour Portland!

So this past weekend I joined up with Malicious Mandy to drive to Forks with the Twitards and co :)

We set off Thursday morning with a short stop by Bella's house that's being re-constructed on the out-skirts of Vancouver in preparation for Breaking Dawn - eeek!

We then *cough*missed the first ferry so hung out on the beach for an hour*cough* arrived into Port Townsand, where we openly fan-girled as we spotted signs to Port Angeles!

The silver lining to running late was that the Bella Italia was open and super yummy!

We got back on the 101 :D and drove onto Forks - let me just say, there is nooo way Edward is making that trip in under 40 minutes because it is crazy whindey if really beautiful - and hit the brakes like woah when we saw... the Forks city sign!

After meeting up with a 100 or so of our closest Twi-buddies (it felt alot like camp as we took over a good part of the Forks Motel) and sporting Charlie cop 'staches like champs at the Twilight Lounge bar, we called it a night.

The next morning, after heading over to the Forks Diner to fill up on caffeine and carbs, we got a tour of the town by the Twi-tastic Kitty_Elvis including:

Forks Hospital

Forks High School

Forks Police department

The Cullen House

and...

La Push :)

Sadly, Mandy and I had to set off for Portland (boo) for the TwiTour there (yaaay) via Astoria for a quick Goonies set visit (win!).

We arrived at the TwiTour just in time for karaoke with Bronson and Kiowa, where I put my brave face on - I was wearing my "You Can't Handle This" tee after all - and sang Black Velvet on stage :/

The next day we were up early for a 6 hour tour of of Twilight filming locations with (wait for it...) Catherine Hardwicke!

Catherine is super cool and friendly - she chatted away to us all like we'd been BFFs for years and gave us all the behind the scenes deets on the:

"My own personal brand of heroine" tree

"As if you could outrun me" boulder

"You have to tell me what you're thinking" rock <--- hummana!

Carver Cafe (where I totes did the Mike Newton "bow chica wah wow" through the window)

Cullen house - sooo amazing O_O but actually at the end of a regular street, unlike in the middle of nowhere as I always imagined

*I'd post more pictures but they mostly involve friends and I recreating scenes which no one needs to see ;)

We headed back to catch Chaske's Q&A - the man's voice is hypnotic - before vamping up for the Volturi Ball where new friends Bryan and Christine ruled the dance contest with a little help from Kiowa, Bronson, Charlie and the fantastically talented, Candace Charee.

I may or may not have closed out the evening by dancing on stage to Party in the USA #MakingKStewProud

Sunday, not only did I get to meet the creators of the FAME comics and see Mandy and the Twilight Lexicon's Shelley's talks...

...but Daniel Cudmore and Charlie Bewley took the stage to answer the weekend's best random question:

"Would you rather have no elbows or no knees?"

After some fairly hysterical demonstrations, people seemed to unanimously choose knees. Now you know!

Over all it was a super fun weekend and I can't wait to go to my next TwiTour (this Oct 8th-10th they're in Anaheim) with even more amazing bloggy-buds :) thanks for the great times, all!

I knew it! Rob nabbed Marcus' shirt for TCAs

Catherine Hardwicke was at the New Jersey Twilight Convention today and she shared some fun facts about Rob...

- At teen choice Rob told Catherine that he borrowed Marcus fosters shirt that marcus wore the night before b/c rob had no clean clothes

What, that shirt? Yes - and I know because I saw Marcus in that shirt:

Other deets Catherine shared:

- Rob recorded let me sign while watching the cut of the scene and pegged the song to what he was seeing on screen emotionally (<-- LOVE that!)

- At Robs audition he still had Dali hair, a stained tee shirt and wasn't toned. Studio said are you sure you can make this guy look good

- Rob originally saw that fans hated him as a casting choice and Catherine told him hang in there and trust me and said stay offline. Rob said my mother sent it to me. Catherine said stop opening emails from your mother

- She had Rob put extensions in his hair and he hated them.

- Says she would have filmed some dream sequnces if there had been money.
